Class Assignment 9/7


Beowulf was originally an oral tale. What kinds of stories can be shared today by means other than books? How does telling a story out loud make it alive?

            In modern days, there are many ways to share a story. First of all, the improvement of technology has created several different ways for people to share stories. For instance, the prevalence of Internet allowed the public to browse information of articles or stories. Using Internet not only let the stories spread to the whole world, but also it is convenient for everyone to read the tales.
Moreover, some famous tales were also been filmed, such as “The Lord of the Rings”, “The Da Vinci Code”, and even “Beowulf” itself has been filmed before. What filming achieved was not simply produce a video. Filming is a way to present the original story in a vivid way. It added sounds, moods, and images to the story, so tales are no longer just insipid articles.
In conclusion, both two ways assisted a story to last longer. Why there are some ancient cultures are incomplete or even mysteries to us? Simply because there was no one recorded the events for people to understand. However, Internet and filming existed within people’s society, which let everyone remember stories. This is how telling a story out loud keeps it alive.
